Ancient Values, One Legacy
Toushinkai is a community
promoting the culture,
practice, studies and research of
the traditional martial arts.
The studies are based on the
Japanese BuJutsu (BuGei): the
classic schools of military arts.
The basic concepts studied and applied in the Toushinkai Curriculum are the following:
Kuzushi : The understanding of human physics, bringing the opponent out of balance in an irreversible manner where the techniques can be applied safely and successfully.

The Human Balance Map.........Application of Kuzushi
Metsuke: Focusing without focusing. When the vision is at the maximum capacity and the eyes can capture any single movement. Often the Metsuke works with Sakki, the 'killer instinct', being able to 'perceive' an attack even if it starts from a blind spot out of our vision.
ZanShin: The 'remaining spirit', the sense of awareness before, during and after a technique is applied.
Ma-Ai: Distance. The difference between a scratch and a wound depends on whether the weapon reaches its target. The distance in a fight is like a rubber band, streatch to reach, pull to defend.
HeiHou: Strategy. Battlefield strategy is studied to be applied in the single fight.
